My Autumn Nesting Phase
Has Become a Craft Supply Situation
Every autumn, I get the urge to make the house cozy.
A little seasonal decorating. Something warm in the oven. Maybe a lovely afternoon spent creating while golden leaves drift past the window.
It’s a beautiful vision. Very peaceful. Apparently, someone else lives there.
At my house, “making things cozy” usually begins with moving a pile so I can put a pumpkin where the pile was. The pile then needs a new home, which requires moving another pile. Forty minutes later, I’m holding a ribbon, looking for my scissors, and wondering whether we should just decorate the piles.
A small string of lights could do wonders.
The Supplies Have Sensed Weakness
The moment the temperature drops, every creative supply I own starts making suggestions.
The fabric wants to become something autumnal. The colored pencils are campaigning for pumpkins. A notebook I haven’t touched in months suddenly looks like the perfect place to organize my entire life.
That notebook has ambition. I respect it.
Meanwhile, the dolls are still looking at me as though wearing summer clothes in October constitutes a formal grievance.
Yes, ladies. Your concerns have been received. Please allow three to five creative detours for processing.
Management Has Arrived
The boys supervise all of this with great interest, particularly if I sit down.
An empty chair is furniture. A chair I need is apparently prime real estate.
They also believe every trip to the kitchen deserves an escort. I appreciate the security detail, although I suspect their training is mostly in cheese detection.
Today’s Modest Goal
So today, I’m aiming for one finished thing.
One drawing. One bit of sewing. One small corner made cozy enough that I can admire it without seeing the rest of the room.
And if I happen to find the scissors along the way, we’ll call that a very productive Thursday.
What does autumn make you want to do—bake, decorate, create, or get under a blanket and let the pumpkins handle themselves?
With love, loose threads, and very ambitious notebooks,
Bella Katella ♥
