The Weekend Has Been Temporarily Buried Under Fabric
Saturday arrived with all sorts of possibilities. I could organize something, finish a project, or finally deal with that little pile I’ve been carefully pretending is part of the décor.
Naturally, I thought of something new to make instead.
That’s the trouble with being creative. You start out clearing a table and find a piece of fabric that reminds you of an idea. Then you need a notebook. Then you’re looking for a pencil, which somehow leads to moving a basket, discovering something you thought you’d lost, and sitting down to admire it.
The table is now worse. But there has been a discovery, so I’m counting it as progress.
Meanwhile, the boys remain deeply committed to their own weekend goals: finding the best resting spot, monitoring kitchen activity, and making sure I never walk anywhere unattended. It’s comforting to have a management team, even if their main contribution is standing exactly where I need to step.
Outside, autumn is making everything look beautifully put together. The leaves coordinate. The light is flattering. Even a pile of sticks looks intentional.
Inside, I have a measuring tape hanging off a chair and something I put in a “safe place” that may never be seen again.
Still, there are worse ways to spend a Saturday than following a little creative curiosity. Something might get finished. Something might get started. At the very least, I’ll have enjoyed myself—and possibly found my scissors.
Did your Saturday involve finishing a project, starting one, or simply moving the supplies around?
