Spooky Season
Spooky Season Is My Happy Season
Some people see a full moon, fluttering bats, and a ghost in the woods and think, “We should leave.” I think, “This place has potential. Does it have Wi-Fi?”
Welcome to my happy season—when the evenings get crisp, the pumpkins take over, and a witch hat becomes a perfectly reasonable accessory for answering the door.
There’s something comforting about a little make-believe mischief. A smiling ghost. A candle glowing beside a stack of books. A warm drink wearing more whipped cream than strictly necessary. Nothing on that little ghost’s schedule looks urgent, and I respect that.
October also offers some wonderful decorating opportunities. Those cobwebs I missed? Seasonal ambiance. The mysterious pile in the sewing room? A fabric crypt. That noise coming from the closet? Probably an unfinished project trying to get my attention. It can haunt me after Halloween. I’m busy.
And then there are the scary movies. I enjoy a spooky atmosphere, but I do have questions. Why are we investigating the basement? Why did we split up? And why does nobody turn on a decent lamp? If a mysterious voice tells me to get out, I’m taking my snacks and respecting its boundaries.
Give me autumn leaves, slightly crooked pumpkins, friendly ghosts, and just enough spooky nonsense to make an ordinary evening feel enchanted. Around here, even the broom has personality—although I’m still waiting for it to show some initiative with the floors.
So pull up a chair, pour something delicious, and help yourself to the Halloween candy I bought “for the children.” We may need another bag before they arrive.
What makes spooky season your happy season—the decorations, the movies, the cozy evenings, or the perfectly respectable excuse to buy tiny chocolate bars? 🎃👻
