Drafting Doll Patterns

A Closet Full of Clothes and Nothing to Wear

I haven’t drafted a doll clothes pattern in a few months. Life got hectic, and somehow my dolls are still sitting around in their summer outfits, looking at me like I’ve neglected a very important contractual obligation.

Before anyone feels sorry for them, they have clothes. Plenty of clothes. But apparently, wearing something they already own is beneath them.

They want something new. And honestly… wouldn’t you?

So I’m back at the drafting table, working on a new pattern for the Little Kidz dolls, and it’s turning out pretty darn cute. The creative wheels are moving again, even if they needed a little oil and a stern talking-to.

Unfortunately, the part of my brain responsible for taking step-by-step pictures has apparently extended its vacation.

I got happily carried away drafting and sewing, then remembered that a PDF tutorial generally benefits from photographs taken before everything is sewn together. “And then some sewing happened” probably isn’t the level of instruction you’re looking for.

Which means I’ll be making another outfit—with the camera actually participating this time.

Stay tuned! A new Little Kidz pattern is in the works, the dolls are getting their wardrobe demands met, and I’m remembering how this whole pattern-making business works.

Apparently, I’m a little rusty. The dolls, however, have lost none of their managerial skills.
