Happy Halloween!
The Broom Is Parked and the Candy Is Under Surveillance
Happy Halloween from my little corner of Hooterville, where the coffee is brewing, the pumpkins are grinning, and I’m trying to determine how much candy needs to remain in the bowl for this to qualify as “ready for trick-or-treaters.”
Apparently, an empty bowl and good intentions won’t do it.
After all the counting down, Halloween has finally arrived. Today we get to admire the costumes, enjoy the decorations, and pretend we haven’t been eating the emergency chocolate since Tuesday.
In my defense, emergencies happen.
Sometimes they’re emails.
The Sewing Room Has Been Ready for Months
Some people spend hours turning their homes into haunted houses. Those of us who sew can achieve a similar effect by opening the sewing-room door.
Mysterious piles? Check.
Sharp objects? Naturally.
A tiny scrap you’re afraid to throw away because it might be important? There’s an entire basket of those.
And somewhere in there is a project that was supposed to be finished three Halloweens ago. I occasionally move it to a different shelf so it knows I still care.
The truly frightening moment comes when you hear a little clatter and realize a bobbin has escaped. You watch where it lands. You walk directly toward it.
It has vanished.
I don’t know what lives under the sewing table, but it has enough supplies to open a shop.
A Few Halloween House Rules
Before the festivities begin, I feel we should establish a few things.
If you arrive on a broom, please park responsibly. Some of us need room to back out.
If you’re bringing something to a witch’s potluck, bread is a perfectly respectable contribution. I’d like to know what I’m eating without consulting an ancient book.
And if you see me talking to the dogs about their costumes, mind your business. We’re having a wardrobe meeting, and one of them has concerns.
There’s always one family member who refuses to cooperate with the group photo. Around here, that family member may be wearing a very small cape.
A Little Sweetness for the Day
For all the spooky fun, one of my favorite things about Halloween is seeing people give themselves permission to be playful.
A grown adult puts on ridiculous ears. A little child proudly explains a costume you would never have guessed. A neighbor turns their porch into a tiny celebration, just to make someone smile.
There’s something lovely about that.
So whether you’re greeting trick-or-treaters, heading to a party, sewing in your slippers, or staying home with the porch light off and a movie on, I hope today brings you a good laugh and a little company you enjoy.
And if today feels quiet or lonely, consider this a warm Halloween hello from me. There’s room for you here, too.
Happy Halloween, beautiful souls. May your evening be cozy, your treats be plentiful, and your doorbell wait until you’ve finished your dinner.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to check the candy bowl.
We’ve had another emergency.
What’s your Halloween plan—and which candy are you quietly hoping nobody takes? 🎃🖤
