Monday has been sent to VM
Monday has a lot of nerve showing up every week with the same expectations.
Apparently, we’re supposed to arrive refreshed, organized, and ready to tackle things. Meanwhile, I’m standing in the kitchen trying to remember why I opened a drawer while holding the very thing I was looking for.
We are clearly working from different agendas.
Yesterday, making plans for the week seemed like a lovely idea. Sunday Me was enthusiastic. She had suggestions. She thought we might organize something.
Monday Me would like a word with her.
Preferably through an attorney.
There’s a particular kind of optimism involved in writing a Monday to-do list. You start with a few reasonable chores, and suddenly you’ve volunteered to reorganize your entire life before lunch. Answer messages. Make something beautiful. Sort the mysterious pile. Figure out dinner.
The mysterious pile alone requires a research grant.
And then there’s the creative brain, which sees your carefully written list and immediately suggests painting something purple.
Could it wait? Certainly.
Will the idea disappear forever if you don’t investigate it immediately? My brain would like me to believe so.
This is how a simple task becomes an afternoon adventure involving a paintbrush, three pieces of fabric, and a song idea scribbled on the back of an envelope. Nothing on the list gets crossed off, but something exists that didn’t exist this morning.
I feel that should count.
Outside, October is putting on its final performance. Leaves are showing off, the air has developed opinions, and Halloween is close enough that an unusual noise can be blamed on seasonal atmosphere.
That’s useful. Normally, I’d have to investigate.
So today, I’m making a smaller agreement with Monday. I’ll handle something that needs doing, leave room for something I want to do, and stop adding jobs to the list just because I found a fresh pen.
Perhaps the studio will get a little tidier. Perhaps a new idea will make it gloriously untidy again.
Either way, you’re welcome to pull up a chair here at Bella Katella Unspooled. Bring your unfinished project, your wandering thoughts, and whatever story you meant to tell me before we both got distracted.
If Monday calls, let it leave a message.
We’re in the middle of something.
What’s on your Monday list—and what are you doing instead?
